Katie Kazoo Switcheroo Series

Author: Nancy Krulik
Illustrator: John & Wendy
Published: In 2002 by Grosset & Dunlap

Synopsis:

This early reader book series is a quick and fun read.  Katie Carew starts the series as a third grader who makes a wish on a shooting star.  A magical wind that only affects her, grants her wish and sweeps her into the body she least expects.  She quickly learns the lesson "be careful what you wish for."  As the series continues, each book focuses on a new "switcheroo" that helps Katie see things from other people's prospectives and learn valuable lessons, such as things are not always as the seem.

My Reaction:

This series is a good one if you do series book studies in your classroom.  The stories are relatively engaging and there are many titles to choose from to study characters, discuss the author's purpose and make predictions based on the events from previous books.  However, the marketing of the series may make it difficult to convince boys to initially give it a try. As a result, I am only giving this series a 3 out of 5 stars. It is definitely a worthwhile addition to your home or school library, but is not likely to be a blockbuster

The books range from levels M-N with an occasional P (DRA equivalent: 28-30, occasional 38).  The stories are relatively engaging and
